Ghorepani & Poon Hill Sunrise Panorama Trekking starts and ends at a beautiful city in Pokhara. Located on a scenic verdant valley surrounded by tiers of green rolling hills, facing grand views of the Annapurna Himalaya range.

From Pokhara begins with a short drive to the foothills at Nayapul and the lovely village of Bhirethati. The walk follows west with a short gradual climb past several farm villages to Tirkhedhunga, a place with cascading waterfalls. After Tirkhedhunga a long steep up on nice stone paved steps to Ulleri, a large farm village.

 From Ulleri onward to Ghorepani populated with Poon / Magar people, the mid-hills tribes of Western Nepal.

The walk follows on a gradual winding trail, leaving Ulleri village amidst a lovely forest of rhododendron and pine trees. As the trek progress with a slow climb reaching Ghorepani village perched atop a high ridge, at the bottom of Poon Hill.

Ghorepani is a scenic village within beautiful rhododendron forest surroundings facing views of Dhaulagiri Himalaya with snow peaks of the Annapurna range.

Next morning an hour hike up to Poon Hill on time to catch spectacular sunrise views. Reflecting on the array of Western Himalayan peaks, including three world’s highest peaks Mt. Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna. Extends towards far west and eastern mountains with Machhapuchare Himal, the Fish-Tail peaks that dominate the skyline, and Pokhara valley. 

After a glorious refreshing morning hike and eye-catching views of sunrise and mountain scenery. The return journey to Pokhara leads on an alternative route with a climb to high Deurali hill. Facing another grand panorama of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas, and then down and ups into a dense forest.

As the walk leads to Ghandruk, a lovely large village of Gurung people, the main hill tribes of Annapurna Himal range. From Ghandruk slowly our wonderful trek completes on reaching a road-head at Bhirethati village for a short drive to Pokhara. On first arrival in Kathmandu at Nepal International Airport received by our staff and guide, with warm Nepali traditional welcome. After, getting organized and then a short transfer to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city.

At the hotel check into your lovely rooms with refreshing rest after a jet-leg.
Then join in with other members of the group, for briefing at meeting halls or garden.
Our guide and leader will provide you with useful information regarding the trek, standard of lodge, foods and so on. If in doubt, can ask questions to make yourself at ease, after briefing enjoy the dinner in a typical Nepalese Restaurant.

Enjoy the exciting drive on leaving the hotel, having an early breakfast as road follows beyond Kathmandu valley. Reaching low hills and warmer valleys through farm villages and towns, drive leads close above Trisuli River to Mugling Bazaar.

From Mugling over a bridge, heading west towards Nepal Mid-West to Pokhara, on arrival transfer into a lovely hotels. Located by the Phewa Lake side, with time to browse around the lake side before dinner time.

From Pokhara our short adventure to Ghorepani and Poon Hill begins, after breakfast few hour drive beyond Pokhara scenic valley. Drive leads ups and down to Nayapul town, located on Baglung and Pokhara highway. From here heading a little further to a lovely village at Bhirethati to start the morning walk.

On leaving Bhirethati on the old historical Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route of Nepal to Tibet. Walk follows on winding path with few short steep ups to Hille and Tirkhedhunga villages for possible lunch stop. A place with beautiful water falls, afternoon a long steep climb on stone steps to Ulleri village for overnight stop.

Altitude: 2,860 m / 9, 384 feet at Ghorepani village.
Approx. 04 hour walks. Overnight at Guesthouse / Lodge.

Morning catch the views of Annapurna peaks, and start the morning walk to Ghorepani village. From Ulleri onwards on winding gradual ups past few temporary settlements for short refreshing stops. Walk follow through beautiful dense rhododendron and pine forest to Ghorepani. Located on a high ridge, beneath the famous view-point Poon Hill. The village with many good lodges, arriving by lunch time as well for overnight halt.

Afternoon browse around Ghorepani facing views of Dhaulagiri Himalayas with peaks of Annapurna.

Start the morning hike within cool air of an hour to the top of Poon Hill, on the highest spot. Catch the morning glory with stunning views of sunrise that reflect over array of white Himalayan peaks. Facing panorama of world’s three highest mountain range of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and massif Annapurna Himalayas.

Includes views of majestic Machhapuchare the famous Fish-Tail peaks with series of lesser snow peaks. After refreshing morning back to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue trek uphill into beautiful rhododendron tree lines.

As climb leads on top of Deurali ridge, a place with grand views having few tea-houses and souvenirs shops. From here down into a gorge to Bhanthati for lunch and then head down to a stream. Where an hour climb reaches Tadapani for overnight halt in a small settlement with number of fine lodges.

From Tadapani close views of Annapurna South, Huin-Chuli with towering Machhapuchare Himal. Located amidst forest surrounding on top of a high ridge spend the afternoon marveling the views of snow peaks.

A short morning walk to Ghandruk village from here on within Gurung people villages, the main tribes of Annapurna region. Start the day walking on easy pleasant forested path, and downhill to Ghandruk for lunch and overnight stop.

At Ghandruk after lunch explore the village and visit the small Gurung museum of great cultural interest.

Last day walk of the wonderful adventure, enjoy the morning views of Annapurna Himalayan peaks, having breakfast. Walk down on a nice stone paved trail to Kimche small farm village and heading further down near Syali Bazaar.

From here taking a vehicle for interesting drive back to Pokhara, as drive follows the Modi River towards Bhirethati village. Drive then reaches the main highway at Nayapul, and then on good road for few hour ride to Pokhara.

Morning at Pokhara options for short drive to Sarankot hill for sunrise views over panorama of Himalayan peaks. Although the sunrise were enjoyed from high Poon Hill, but choice for interested people. Rest of the day enjoy sightseeing around Pokhara steeped with natural wonders of David water falls.

Visit the large Gupteswor cave nearby, and enjoy boating on Phewa Lake as well one can visit the Mountaineering Museum.

Best Seasons:

The best seasons for wonderful Ghorepani & Poon Hill Sunrise Panorama Trekking are spring and autumn, spring begins from March to May. Autumn starts from September to November, and the spring season with longer days due to much sunlight hours.

Days are mostly bright with sunshine for clear views and pleasant walking can get cloudy in the late afternoon. Chances of light rains and snowfall around higher elevations sometimes, and the temperature drops in the early morning and night times.

During springtime, the hills are bright with wildflowers in bloom especially the rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal.

The next best season is autumn from September to November, days are much clear for views and walks. But days are much short due to sunlight hours, pleasant and peak times for trekking around the Himalayas.

Much colder morning and late afternoon till night time, chances of snowfall on higher elevation sometimes. Interested people can visit Ghorepani & Poon Hill during winter times of December to February. Much colder morning and night times with clear sunny days for views and walks. In wintertime, days are shorter due to limited sunlight hours.

Culture, Religion & History:

The lower areas of Ghorepani and Poon Hill are much warmer with sub-tropical temperatures, where most farm villages are located. The lower mid-hills of mixed tribes of hill people. Gurung, Magar, Hindu Bharamins, Chettries, and Newars.

The culture and religions are mixed with Hinduism and Buddhism around low land to mid-hills till Ghorepani village. After Ghorepani within Gurung villages of Tadapani and Ghandruk, interwoven with Buddhism and the ancient cult of Bon, a pre-Buddhism religion.

Walk follows the ancient Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route of Nepal to Tibet, which extends beyond Ghorepani village to the Mustang region.

The word Ghorepani derived from Ghode-Pani means a place to water the horses and mules. Where caravan of horses, donkeys, and mules laden with heavy loads of rock salts, spices and wool passed through Ghorepani routes.

But at Ghorepani and Ghandruk, lodges are much better having attached bath and toilets. Includes long list of food menus served in a large dining room with fire place making the dining warm and cozy.

The meals are served according to menu list of items, all foods are cooked in a healthy manner and hygienic.

Drinking waters are available in each lodge, which is boiled and filtered and safe for drinking. Bottled water is available, we do encourage plastic bottled water as it created waste and garbage. As we are committed to Eco-Trekking and Responsible Tourism, one can buy only in emergency situations.

How hard and tough is the trek?

The only tough and long day walk is on first day, a steep climb to Ulleri village.
But the trail are well established for safe trekking. The only hardest part of trek is on first day and then long walk from Ghorepani to Tadapani. After a side trip to Poon Hill and then with few hour climb to Deurali and to Tadapani.

Are there electricity on route trekking in the lodges?

Most villages on route do have hydroelectricity power. Some villages and lodges have their own private solar and small hydro power. Managed by the village community, where you can charge your electronic gadgets and items.

Do we have to pay extra for showers and charging our electronic items?

Yes, for using hot/cold showers as for charging electronic items one needs to pay a fee. The price differs from one village lodge to another, first ask your guide if the cost is reasonable.

How many nights on the high hills of Annapurna Himalayas?

Just for four nights and five days in the comfort of nice lovely mountain lodges with rooms facing views of snow peaks.

How much extra money to carry on the treks?

Depending upon own expenses for extra snacks, soft drinks or having a beer as well buying local souvenirs on treks. Average of US $ 100 to 300 per person, the money required for tipping the guide, staff, and porters also at the end of the trek.

What happens if someone is very sick on treks?

For mild sickness, our guide carries First Aid and a comprehensive medical kit, for serious unfortunate accidents and illness. Immediate evacuation by fastest means of transport to nearest medical center or hospitals.

The best and fastest means is using Helicopter Services that is why all trekkers have to purchase Medical and Travel Insurance in case of emergency situations.
