Our Everest Base Camp & Gokyo Lake trek begins on our first arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport.
While in Kathmandu, a short sightseeing tour, to catch an insight into local history, religion, and culture as an introduction.
After a pleasant time in the capital city of Kathmandu, then take a short scenic flight to Lukla. As the small plane lands at Tenzin and Hilary Airport, where our wonderful walk starts to Phakding. As the adventure continues following Dudh Koshi River, to enter Sagarmatha National Park, designated in World Heritage Sites. Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepal, the Sherpa calls Chomolungma of Tibetan origin language, both names mean a ‘Great Mother’.
On entering the park leaving the river down below, then head for an undulating climb to Namche Bazaar. A perfect place at 3,440 m high for rest and acclimatization day, while in Namche explore the scenic viewpoints.
From Namche Bazaar, a walk leads to higher terrain on a scenic trail within a beautiful woodland of rhododendron and pine trees. An exciting climb to a magnificent Tengboche, a scenic place with an impressive colorful monastery. Tengboche is surrounded by an array of snow peaks with views of Mt. Everest and majestic looking Ama Dablam.
After Tengboche onwards tree lines give away for short high altitude bush of juniper and dwarf rhododendron. As walk heads past the last permanent village of Pangboche, located beneath towering Mt. Ama Dablam.
Walk slowly enters a scenic Imjatse valley on reaching Dingboche for overnight stops, as well as acclimatization day. Enjoy a lovely short hike around the high hills of Dingboche facing views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, and Nuptse.
As far as Mt. Makalu in the east beyond Amphu Labtsa peak, from Dingboche adventure heads higher to Lobuche. Then finally walk leads on the foot of mighty Mt. Everest at base camp. A stunning spot, surrounded by remorseless fields of ice and glaciers with giant peaks of Lhotse and Nuptse.
At base camp standing close to massif Khumbu Ice-Fall, within incredible dramatic arctic zone landscapes. The next adventure leads to a steep tough climb on top of Kalapathar Hill the highest point of the journey. Rewards spectacular panorama of high snow mountain range facing closest views of Mt. Everest at a mere distance.
On completing the first phase of the adventure, the trek leads to the base of Cho-La pass at Dzongla. Next morning a steep climb to Cho-La, the pass forms the boundary of Gokyo and the eastern side of Khumbu valley.
After a tough haul on top Cho-La pass, long descent to the base around beautiful Gokyo valley. Walk on a gradual easy path past the 1st, and 2nd lakes then reach the third main lake of Gokyo. At Gokyo enjoy the glorious scenery located beneath Ngozumba the longest glaciers of Nepal Himalayas.
At Gokyo, option for a few hours hike to Gokyo-Ri in the early morning to catch the stunning sunrise. Includes superb panorama of the world’s four highest peaks namely Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, and Mt. Makalu.
From Gokyo Lake, completing all our major highlights downhill to Namche Bazaar and back into green vegetation and tree lines.
Having a refreshing time at the large settlement of Namche Bazaar, an easy down with few ups to Lukla. Staying in Lukla for last overnight around high Khumbu and Everest region. The next morning a swift short flight brings you to Kathmandu, after a memorable adventure and great experience on Everest Base Camp & Gokyo Lake Trekking.
